communication (GSM) is a worldwide technology which phones use to
communicate with cell towers. Currently, there are two national carriers
in the United States, T-Mobile and Cingular, who operate using GSM

In the United States, GSM phones are sold with a
lock on the SIM card. For example, A T-Mobile phone will only accept a T-Mobile SIM
card. Two of the most common scenarios where people want a phone
- Often, people have a Cingular phone, but have service with
T-Mobile, and vice versa. Unlocking a phone allows someone to use a
phone on a different carrier.
- Other people want to travel internationally and not pay for
international roaming charges. A phone unlock enables someone to buy
a pre-paid SIM card from the international location and use it to pay local
rates from his or her destination.
Not every phone can be unlocked, though we can
